Gavyn is Chairman of Fulcrum and Head of the Fulcrum Investment Committee, and was previously the Chairman of the BBC from 2001-2004. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1986 and was a Partner from 1988 to 2001, as well as being the firm’s Chief Economist over that period and Chairman of the Research Department. Gavyn has spent working in government as a member of H.M.Treasury Independent Forecasting Panel (1992-1997). He began his career as an Economist, first with Phillips and Drew (1979-1981) then Simon and Coates (1981-1986). Gavyn graduated in Economics from St. John’s College, Cambridge in 1972. This was followed by two years of research at Balliol College Oxford. He joined the Government’s Policy Unit as an Economist in 1974 and was an Economic Policy Adviser to the British Prime Minister from 1976 to 1979. He is founder of Active Private Equity and Anthos Capital.
