In response to today’s ONS release of Labour Market Statistics, Anoushka Kenley, Research and Policy Director at Pro Bono Economics, said:

“The economy is continuing to bounce back strongly from the pandemic with an extra 356,000 people entering the labour market in June. Some of the most deprived regions in the UK have surged past pre-pandemic levels of employees on payroll.

“But we haven’t reached the promised land yet. Charities are straining to support those hardest-hit by the pandemic’s economic damage. Long-term unemployment is continuing to grow and many sectors employing young people, such as retail and hospitality, are still dragging below pre-pandemic employment levels.
