The Mo Farah Foundation approached PBE for support with evaluating their programmes, so we assigned an experienced economist and keen runner from HM Treasury, Tom Aldred, to provide help and advice. In particular, Tom was asked to advise the foundation on the sort of data they would need to collect to be able to understand the impact of interventions to encourage sustained participation in sport by young people.

The advice was particularly relevant to their Motivate Hounslow project which encourages local young people aged 14-25 to take up sport and physical activity and to make it part of their weekly routines. The programme is run in partnership with Brentford FC community sports trust and Sport Impact, and is funded by the National Lottery through a £250,000 grant awarded by Sport England.

Tom provided a framework for the data collection for the foundation, who are now considering how best to engage a technology partner to help with the data collection.

"Motivate Hounslow is a landmark project for the Mo Farah Foundation on a number of levels. It has been a pleasure and extremely enlightening working with Karen at PBE and Tom at HM Treasury, in designing an evaluation framework for the project."

Jerome Albarus, Project Manager, Mo Farah Foundation

“I enjoyed working with the Mo Farah Foundation on the thoroughly worthwhile Motivate Hounslow project. I hope that the advice will help them to establish effective ways to monitor and evaluate its progress.”

Tom Aldred, HMT

We are very grateful to Tom for his efforts in helping the Mo Farah Foundation.
