While the UK has made progress on many aspects of social justice in recent decades, Covid-19 has shone a very clear light – and too exacerbated – the stark structural inequalities that continue to hold society and industry back. In its early stages, it prompted a surge in community spirit, neighbourliness and optimism for our collective future.

As such, policymakers and business leaders have in-turn coalesced around establishing a programme for renewal centred on ‘building back better’. However, with the immediacy of the crisis now slightly further afield, some of that early optimism has been replaced by frustration and division on the way we recover. This is rarely more evident, than in the perceived variances in how different groups, demographics and regions have been supported by central or local government.

Charting an equitable path forward, in which those groups and regions are heard, will determine how both government and industry build trust for decades to come. To unpick this challenge, join a distinguished panel of speakers reflecting on the importance of dismantling structural inequality and its role in the UK’s recovery and growth.

The event will be hosted by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) on behalf of the newly established Structural Inequalities Alliance (SIA).
