The Trussell Trust has partnered with local communities to establish a 400-strong network of foodbanks which provide a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. They also work with foodbanks to provide a range of new services such as money advice and Fuel Banks, with the aim of helping people break the cycle of poverty.

The charity approached Pro Bono Economics for help in assessing the social and economic impact value of the work they undertake, including the benefits to the economy and to individuals through empowering and training volunteers, and through supporting the purchasing power of low income people. We matched The Trussell Trust with expert economists Götz Kunze and Sanjay Raja to undertake this project.

The volunteers' objective was to identify key pieces of data that would be required for the successful assessment of the charity's economic and social impact, both qualitatively and quantitatively. They also presented the charity with a wide range of variables to consider in their economic impact assessment, which can be altered depending on methodology or sensitivity concerns.

This report will enable The Trussell Trust to collect the right data for a robust analysis of their output, allowing them to demonstarte the impact of their essential work. We would like to thank Sanjay and Götz for their hard work on this report, which can be downloaded below.
